    Characteristics

Longer and more lithe than its European counterparts, the Horned Chinese dragon was the wisest of all and is a symbol of Imperial power. It has a long, serpent-like body, lions’ claws and a wide head with a square jaw.

Though it has no wings, it can fly through its magic.

It is usually depicted as mostly red with a gold underbelly, beard and fringe.

    History

Several Chinese myths explain the emperor-dragon connection. For over 2,000 years, Emperors have been known as the True Dragon, Son of Heaven. They have sat on thrones decorated with dragons, their pens have been called the Dragon’s Brush, and their coat of arms showed two dragons fighting over a pearl.
